Face Yoga

Owing to the chaotic and stressful lifestyle most of you lead and the kind of environment you live in, wrinkles and fine lines, in addition to facial fat is the most common challenge for your face. Facial fat is essentially the accumulation of excess fatty tissues that give a fuller and rounder look to the face. Although chubby cheeks look cute, but for those of you who aspire for a shaped jawline or a sharp nose and fashioned cheekbones, facial fat and double chin may be frustrating and quite tiring to get rid of. Losing fat only on the face is quite difficult, so you may have to opt for a complete weight loss regime or go for a healthy lifestyle to see any obvious changes in your face. However, there are a few ways that can help you reduce a stubborn double chin and chubby cheeks.

Yoga for Reducing Facial Fat

Albeit, yoga isn’t as quick compared to other ways of losing weight or fat that you can opt for, but it is one way of losing unnecessary fat and weight naturally and painlessly, not to forget maintaining that fat or weight loss as well. Most of the following exercises are best done for a minimum of 90 days to gain any positive results:

The Lion Pose – Simha Mudra

A sitting pranayama practice that helps release tension in the jaw, face and neck, the Simha Mudra not only energises you, restores the face with a new flow, but also leaves you feeling strengthened and happy. Physically, it helps tone and stimulate all your facial muscles and is one of the best exercises for your face and thyroid glands. You can perform this form by kneeling down and placing your hands on your thighs, dropping your jaw and opening your mouth wide. Now, stick your tongue out downwards and towards your chin powerfully. Breathing through your mouth, make a sound from down your throat that sounds like a lion’s roar and repeat this a few times.

Locked Tongue – Jivha Bandha

An exercise that chisels your face and shapes your jawline in addition to toning your facial muscles, the locked tongue or Jivha Bandha pose is ideal for increasing the blood flow to your throat, brain and the face, ultimately improving your skin tone as well as reducing your facial fat. To begin with, sit in the Padmasana/Siddhasana or Sukhasana pose, keeping your back and neck straight and close your eyes. Now, open your mouth calmly, taking your tongue up gently to touch the palette. It is best done, carrying the tongue to your cranial cavity and to your throat. Keep breathing normally and hold your tongue in this position for about 5-10 seconds. Follow it through by bringing the tongue to its normal position and closing your mouth. Repeat this exercise 4-5 times.

Chin Lock – Jalandhar Bandha

Jalandhar Bandha or the chin lock is a blessing for those of you with a double chin, as it is quite effective in getting rid of facial fat, in addition to shaping the face and toning the facial and jawline muscles. It is one of the 3 essential poses that works internally in controlling and harnessing the flow of energy in the body. It can be practiced independent of the other 2 exercises. The chin lock stretches the neck that’s often holding onto tension and ends up being knotted from looking up at the screen all day! To practice the Jalandhar Bandha pose, bring your chin towards your spine and gently press it downward. It need not be a strong bend. As you feel the windpipe compress, hold the pose for as long as it feels comfortable, then relax your throat, raise your chin and exhale slowly through the nose.

Fish Face

This is one of the best exercises that helps stretch and tone your cheek muscles and makes them less chubby and the face slimmer, the fish face pose can help bring your jawline out, firm up the chicks of your lips as well as help release all the tension and stress in the jaw. However, an important thing to note is that this exercise works effectively only when you perform it regularly and also observe a regular and disciplined diet. To practice this form, just suck your cheeks and lips inwards replicating the face of a fish. Hold the pose and attempt to smile. This will feel like a burning sensation in your cheeks and jaw. Relax and repeat.

The Mouthwash Technique

The mouthwash technique is all about filling your mouth with air, while keeping the mouth closed and moving the air about from one corner of your mouth to another just like a mouthwash. You can also concentrate the air at the centre behind the lips taking the air up and down of the mouth. Repeat this process for a few moments, relax and then repeat. The mouthwash technique can help tone your cheeks and reduce double chin.

Neck Roll

A neck roll is another effective way of getting rid of your double chin, tone up your jawline and neck muscles, tightening the skin on your neck as well as reducing sagging and wrinkles. Sit comfortably for this pose and keep your face facing forward. Now, bend your head to one side, in line with your chin and turn the head around in a circular motion, whilst keeping your spine straight and your shoulders down. Going clockwise first, followed by an anti-clockwise motion, keep doing the neck roll for a few minutes. This exercise is best performed 10 times in each direction to begin with.

Lip Pull

The lip pull pose tones your facial muscles giving you high cheekbones and a prominent jawline, making you look younger and radiant. For this pose, sit or stand comfortably keeping your head straight and facing forward. Now, lift your lower lip as much as possible, pushing your lower jaw out, allow yourself to feel the stretch in your chin muscles and jawline. Stay in this position for a few seconds, release and then repeat.

Blowing Air

The blowing air technique aims the chin and neck muscles and can help reduce excess fat deposits in these areas, naturally lifting your facial muscles and making them look lean. You can perform this technique by sitting or standing erect while tilting your head backwards, looking up and blowing air through your lips, or you can look up straight, and while blowing the air, gently tap around your laugh line to increase resistance to make the exercise more effective. Avoid pulling your upper lip down as it can increase the distance between your lips and your nose, adding to the years. This technique is best practice for 10 seconds, and then repeated 10 times after a brief relaxation.

For How Long Should These Yoga Techniques be Performed?

Getting good results involves time and consistency. These yoga techniques for reducing or eliminating facial fat are best performed regularly for about 20-30 minutes each day and 7 days a week. For any noticeable changes to take effect, it’d take at least 3-4 weeks.
