Is Sunscreen Good for Oily Skin

Oily skin means that the sebaceous gland under the hair follicles are hyperactive and produce more sebum than what is needed. So, people with oily skin might feel that sunscreen makes the skin more irritable and hence, sunscreen is not good for them. However, many dermatologists suggest that sunscreen is very important especially for oily skin, as exposure to sun rays causes tan, wrinkles, premature ageing and loss of radiance.

It is also important to find a sunscreen with SPF 25 that best suits your skin. Buy the sunscreen with non-comedogenic label on them. This means that they don’t clog the pores and are good for oily skin. Mineral-based sunscreens are also a good option as they let the pores breathe instead of filling them up with sweat and grime.

Benefits of Sunscreen for the Skin

Sun Protection

Ozone layer is depleting and the risk of UV rays penetrating the skin and causing damage is high. So it is very important to protect the skin against such instances. Use of SPF 25 and above is very effective in preventing UV rays from entering the skin.

Makes You Look Young

Exposure to sun for long hours leads to premature aging and this can be avoided by using sunscreen. Sunscreen slows down the process of formation of wrinkly and leathery skin.

Even Skin Tone

Sunscreen also protects the skin from discoloration and pigmentation by forming a protective layer on the skin. This helps in getting an even skin tone.

Reduces the Risk of Cancer

Sunscreen is known to provide protection against deadly cancers especially melanoma. Melanoma is often seen in women in their 20s and can be life-threatening. Using sunscreen every day can prevent the risk of developing this cancer.

Keeps the Skin Healthy

Sunscreen protects essential protein like keratin in the skin, which help in keeping the skin smooth and healthy. So, using sunscreen daily protects the skin from the outside.

Many companies use just the term ‘fragrance’, which may include preservatives and chemicals, as it is not mentioned on the label. Due to these reasons, natural sunscreen made at home would be the best option.

You must reapply the sunscreen every two hours or after every time you get in the water. It is important that you are always protected.

Some sunscreens contain ingredients that may irritate the skin. If you know you react to specific ingredients, be sure to check the contents on the label. You can also ask your dermatologist to recommend a sunscreen. Think about the products you have been using (especially new products), and stop using these products one by one before you stop using the sunscreen.
