Bonus: 5 Websites and Apps to Help You Figure Out Content on Netflix

Perhaps in an ideal world, the best thing would be for Netflix to know our favourites and choices already and it kept playing the best in an auto-play mode. But we aren’t quite yet in the Black Mirror situation, and it seems quite far away in the future as well.

As Netflix continues to add and subtract content continually, it becomes quite an arduous task to figure out what to watch in the ocean of movies and series. Thankfully, there are certain apps and websites to help.

  • Compare Movies: if you already have the selection but don’t know which one to begin with, this app helps you out by comparing different movies and series based on their IMDB ratings, awards and critical reception, major casts, and public opinion.

  • Fan TV App: this is one of the most popular apps out there for aiding streaming. Fan TV has a lot in common with just watch and decider but with a lot of odds. It also specifies shows on your taste if you customize it so. It also has a list of all the live shows if you enter your zip code so you can enjoy any live sports game or show of your choice in this cord-cutting era. But do not mistake it as any magical app as being a low budget app, subscribers have complained of bugs and poor customer support.

  • Decider: sometimes you know about the show that you have to watch but aren’t sure about its streaming site. Decider helps you do that. With a search on a specific title, it lists all the places you can stream, rent, or purchase that movie or show. Although there are certain confusions whether the movie or the shows are rental or free, it is a great place to start.

  • Flixable: the search option on Netflix is not a very customizable one. You are out of luck if you are looking for anything a tad bit complicated. Luckily Flixable’s robust search engine eases it out for you. It breaks down search options between shows and movies; you can choose a specific genre, and narrow down the show timings as well.

  • Rotten Apples: it has become tricky to find a show or a movie lately that is not tainted with any controversy. Although it has got nothing to do with the story of the show or the movie, some of you might want to see something clean and lively. Rotten apple does this thing for you very simply. Just put in the name of the show you are interested in its search box, and rotten tomatoes will show whether the show has been linked to any controversy or not. The app is not 100 percent accurate as it gives results based on allegations but anyways helps a lot.

  • Just Watch: Each week there are dozens of new shows and movies being added to Netflix and even its official announcements don’t cover all the newbies, so it gets pretty tricky to find out precisely the new content. Just watch makes figuring out easier. Similarly to flixable, you can sort the list into shows and movies. Just watch expands past Netflix to other famous apps like Hulu, HBO, Starz, and showtime.
