How to Organize Your Kitchen Drawers?
There’s nothing like a well-organized kitchen! Most households see the kitchen as one of the favourite spaces to be in and yet it is also one of the hardest places in a house to keep neat and organized. Fortunately, there are super smart ways to keep your kitchen cabinets and drawers organized with solutions aimed at kitchen storage to house anything from tangled cords to pile high pans and other things and make the most of your time there with your family. To begin with, it’d be wise to take stock of the kitchen space and identify the areas that need the most assistance and then either DIY or buy nifty organizers to make sense of the kitchen space.
Best Way of Organizing the Kitchen Drawers
Clear out the Clutter!
If your kitchen drawers are filled with things that you’ve not been using for long or don’t need, there’s no point in organizing that! First things first, go through each item in each drawer and see if you’d like to keep it if it’s rightfully placed and then purge before you make the next move. Ideally, your drawers should hold the stuff you need the most. Make 3 piles when you clear out the clutter, one to give away, one to keep and another for trash. Get rid of anything you don’t use, is broken or missing a part.
Identify a Space for Everything
Once your drawers are clean of all that’s not required, put everything together by type and then identify the best spot for each thing. For instance, place all your spatulas together in a drawer, while the cooking utensils are best placed close to the stove or oven. Drawer organizers are the best way to create order. Once you’re certain what will go in each drawer, you can organize it all better. Measure each drawer and make a list of what goes where and then considering the dimensions of each drawer into consideration, it’d make it easier for you to invest in the right kind of drawer organizers.
Using Each Space Optimally
It’s possible that despite your precise measurements, planning and shopping skills you may find off-the-shelf organizers that would fit the kitchen drawers perfectly. To avoid wasting space and minimizing empty space, rotate the organizer in every possible manner to arrive at a solution that used the space optimally. Then, ascertain if you can add any more organizers, containers or boxes to fill the emptiness and make the drawer more functional.
Make Use of Divided Drawer Organizers
Hand tools like spatulas, wooden and slotted spoons, tongs are best stored in divide drawer organizers and placed close to the gas stove. The kitchen drawer dividing organizers can be made of wood, plastic, cardboard or other materials. Whether store-bought or made at home, you can use them to make everything look neat and organized. If you plan to make the dividers yourself, you can make them using colourful scrapbook paper and other supplies, as it’d be a creative way to add colour to your drawers and decorate at the same time!
Pay Attention to Organizing Deep Kitchen Drawers
In order to stack items in the deep kitchen drawers, it is wise to place the casserole dishes and mixing bowls in the large drawers, by stacking them to save space, but only if they nest well together. Avoid stacking more than 3 at a time. You can use bamboo dividers to make such large spaces more organized by creating sections within so that each area serves a purpose. Such dividers also hold stuff in place when opening or closing the drawer. Ensure you stack items vertically so as to save space and utilize it for things that stack don’t well.
Keep a Knife Organizer
Once you’ve identifies the accurate measurements for your drawers, install built-in storage blocks for the knives. The first thing to do before you store the knives is to wipe them dry and then store them in a knife dock. If you store wet knives, the water can damage the metal. Built-in storage blocks prevent the knives from knocking around and stay sharp without harming the hands.
Figure out Efficient Storage of Utensils
Most kitchens have short utensils and a few really long ones which usually means a lot of wasted space irrespective of whether the utensils are stored vertically or horizontally! You can make the most of your drawer space by storing the utensils diagonally. For instance, in a deep drawer, you can store your bakeware and the lids placed on tension rods near the drawer’s front end, with enough room to slip in the lids. For the dishes, even though a dish pantry is a practical solution, shallow pull-out drawers would be better.
Plan out Your Produce Drawer Space
Consumables like rice, flour, sugar and other things can be stored neatly in drawers in matching containers with labels on them. You can also have special drawer organizers in place with created slots for each container. Another great way of organizing kitchen contents is through bins, especially the large and deep ones which can hold stuff like packaged goods, vegetables and other consumables inside the pantry. There are some modern-day kitchen storage ideas that include ready-made drawer organizers which you can simply purchase and add to your existing kitchen like a wood spice drawer insert.
Make Use of Custom or Adjustable Drawer Organizers
Even though using cardboard dividers is an easy way to create custom inserts for storage in kitchen drawers, sometimes, they just don’t cut it. A durable and sturdy solution makes more sense then. Made of wood or plastic, you can make one yourself playing with dimensions and proportions, modifying the compartments based on your storage needs. From designs ideal for small drawers with several horizontal compartments to hold utensils to large drawers with large divided vertical sections, you can customize the organizers to your liking. There are some adjustable drawer dividers as well with adjustable sides, and compartments in varying sizes. These dividers are easy to clean and maintain, are typically eco-friendly and extendable with stylish designs.
