2019 is the Year to Bring Sweetness Back in Diabetics' Lives! Here are 8 Recipes for Delicious Sugar-Free Cakes and Useful Tips on How to Make Cake for Diabetics

Diabetes is a growing concern all over the world. However, being a diabetic shouldn't stop us from enjoying the sweet things in life, such as cake. So, if you plan on taking diabetes head on, or to celebrate the birthday of your diabetic friend, here are some great baking recipes especially for diabetics.

Baking a Cake for Diabetics? These Things Should Be Kept in Mind

It can be tricky to bake a dessert for diabetics. However, it is not impossible. You just need to look for healthy and creative options to cook. Here are a few tips:

Ingredients are Key

Dump the cream as it contains a lot of calories and sugar. Use alternatives such as a grated coconut. Instead of grated milk chocolate, use dark chocolate, which is good for diabetics. You can also use sugar free natural tablets instead of normal sugar. Instead of butter, you can use avocado. It will give an equally rich and smooth texture to your cake. Avocado is also rich in fibers and is great for people suffering from diabetes.

Cream for Icing is a Big NO

Do not use cream for icing. In fact, avoid icing all together. Alternatively, you can go for whipped cream. It contains lesser calories. Mix the whipped cream with fruits like strawberries, blueberries and raspberries to make it enticing and healthy.

Apart from that, you can also opt for flavored honey. A lot of different varieties of honey are available in the market and you can spread it on your cake. It will be sweet as well as delicious.

Try looking at baking mini muffins or cupcakes without icing for people having diabetes. If you limit the portion size, it will not be a problem for them and they can at least relish a piece of cake. Also, avoid adding a lot of essence in the cake.

Time to Go Nuts!

Using nuts is a very healthy option for a cake. A cake with nuts like dates and walnuts would require no icing as it would taste great by itself. Also, nuts are considered super healthy and hence, they are ideal for diabetics.

You can use nut flour instead of the usual flour. Hazelnut flour is a good option to consider. It has more fat but it also has a lesser impact on blood sugar levels. You can also choose to bake with half white flour and half wheat flour.

You can choose to bake the cake with ingredients like carrots, zucchini and spinach. It tastes equally delicious. You can add shredded vegetables to your cake and increase its fiber quotient. Baking a banana or a blueberry cake without icing is also a nice option.
