Tips on Removing Makeup Correctly

When removing makeup it is essential to do it correctly. Washing your face with only water won't clean it all and will leave you with clogged pores. Here are some tips for you to learn how to remove it correctly and heal your skin.

  • It is ok to feel tired at the end of the day but it is not ok to remove the makeup just for the sake of it. You need to take your time and clean it thoroughly to make sure to get it all off from your skin. The best way to do is to apply a makeup remover and let it sit on your skin for a while. It will soften the substance on your skin and remove it better. Most of us find mascara or kajal smudges even after removing makeup and the reason behind is that we don't give enough time in cleaning our face. We also end up rubbing our skin harshly for removing the smudges which is bad for our skin. The friction caused by rubbing can damage the skin especially around the eyes and cause wrinkles. So, take your time when removing makeup for a better looking skin.
  • A good cleanser is good enough to remove makeup. Use a cleanser over your face and leave it on for 15 to 20 seconds. Apply it on near your hairline, under your chin and around the ears as well then wipe it with a soft washcloth preferably white to see if all of it coming off. If you use a long lasting foundation then it is recommended to wash your face first with a mild face wash and then use a cleanser over it. Do not rub your skin but wipe it off smoothly to prevent any damage to your skin.
  • You should also use a toner after a cleanser. A toner helps to remove any residue left after the cleanser and tones your skin as well. Use a cotton pad by saturating it with a few drops of a toner and gently wipe your face with it.
  • If your skin feels dry or irritated after removing makeup it means you have been doing it the wrong way. You can use cleansing oil which won't dry up your skin and remove makeup as well. Apply some oil to your fingers and put it on your eyelids, eyebrows and lips, gently massage it and wipe it off with a cotton pad. Wipe it a couple of times to remove all the makeup by applying it on one direction to wipe off the makeup completely.
  • Using steam to remove makeup is also a good idea. It is an easy way to remove it and open your clogged pores. Simply fill a bowl with hot water and let the steam over your face for a couple of minutes. It will penetrate into your skin and remove the makeup and other impurities efficiently. You can also add in lavender essential oil in it for better effects and a pleasant aroma.
  • Don't forget to remove makeup from your eyelids which is often ignored by most of the women. You use mascara, eye shadow etc on your eyes which can cause irritation to the skin around the eyes especially if you use waterproof products. Do not tug on the mascara to remove it as it may break your lashes, simply apply the remover and let it sit for a few seconds then gently wipe it off with a cotton pad a couple of times.
  • Always tie your hair or use a band to pull back your hair to clean your hairline. Avoid cleaning your hair line can leave makeup on it and lead to breakouts. It just takes a few seconds to tie your hair and clean your face completely therefore do not avoid it.
  • Removing makeup is not complete until you use a good moisturizer after it. Most people feel that they need a moisturizer only if they have dry skin but remember that using cleanser or toner can leave your face dry and to keep it hydrated you should use a good moisturizer after you are done with it.
