What is Egg Oil And What Are Its Benefits?
Egg oil is derived from the yolk of the chicken’s egg, which has numerous health benefits, including tremendous benefits for skin and hair. The main components of egg oil constitutes of fatty acids (which are abundant in omega 3 and omega 6), cholesterol, proteins, etc. All these works together to keep your hair free from dandruff, hair fall and make your hair follicles more vigorous and also prevent premature greying of hair.
Making Your Own 100% Natural Egg Oil at Home
If you have decided to take things in your own hands entirely and not rely on any market products, here’s how you can make egg oil at home in simple steps:
- Take anywhere between half a dozen to a dozen eggs.
- Hard boil the eggs. Keep the eggs in at least an inch-deep water in a pot (that can comfortably accommodate all the eggs). Boil the water, remove it from the gas once it boils, and leave it aside for about 20-30 minutes.
- Now, remove the eggs from the water and let them cool in normal or cold water.
- The next step is to remove the shells from all the eggs.
- After you’re done removing the shells comes the removal of the yolk.
- Next, you have to mesh the yolk. After you’ve meshed and changed it into a good, crumbled mixture, you can oven it for 1-2 minutes (optional) and then pour the crumbled eggs on a shallow frying pan, followed by keeping it on simmering flame; keep mixing it with a spatula or a spoon for even heating.
- Wait till you start seeing this mixture turning deep brown. Turn off the heat now.
- Use a filter (you can also use “chai chalni” – tea filter) for pouring out oil from the yolk blend. And you have you 100% natural egg oil ready with you!
How to Use Egg Oil On Hair: Simple Steps to Follow
Egg oil may be used regularly just like any other hair oil; however, there are subtle differences that one must keep in mind, which is why we’ve mentioned the steps below on how to use egg oil on hair correctly:
- Step – 1: Make your own egg oil, or choose any good egg hair oil from the market, which must be entirely natural and do not come with any chemicals, such as a preservative etc. The best would be to go with making your own, which we have already discussed above. You can also choose to mix this egg oil with other ingredients such as coconut oil, honey, or any other ingredient which would be beneficial for your hair and may even provide a better fragrance than egg oil.
- Step – 2: After you take your regular shower at night, dry your hair. After drying, you can start with about half a teaspoon egg oil (mixture) and massage your scalp with your fingers. You have to make sure that you take the oil all the way through your hair to your scalp so that it could reach hair follicles, which it primarily has to provide nutrients to.
- Step – 3: You can’t just remove or wash your hair in minutes after applying egg oil. Egg oil takes some time to act, and you will be required to leave it on your hair for several hours. It is recommended to leave it overnight after you applying it. (Important: Do make arrangements for your pillow so that you don’t end up spoiling it!)
- Step – 4: It’s time to remove the egg oil from your hair! The next morning, hop into your shower and shampoo your hair with your regular shampoo, or if you are on a hair care routine you might be using any specific shampoo for your hair such as a herbal one; those can be used as well. In fact, those are considered more beneficial to be used after an egg oil massage (Important: Only use small or medium quantities of shampoo, like you always do, and you must not overdo it; otherwise you may just end up reversing the benefits that the egg oil has provided to your hair!).
- Step – 5: Let your hair dry naturally, as it is recommended that you don’t use a hair dryer, which might heat-damage your hair.
Now you’re all done!
Frequency of Usage:
- Ideally, you can use egg oil about 2-3 times a week for normal hair. People with dry hair can go as high as four times a week, as well. However for people having naturally oily hair, it is recommended to keep it to a minimum, or first try with 1-2 times per week with small quantities, check if it proves to be beneficial, and increase and decrease the quantity and frequency accordingly.
- You will have to be patient to see significant results, which would be showing after at least 10-14 weeks.
